in and start at
Soaring Eagle Regional Park Tune up your mountain bike for this race, because you'll flow through some sweet trails, and the course will reward teams that can both pedal and think on their feet! Race #3 -- Wednesday, June 23Union Bay (North Seattle) Check in and start at UW Waterfront Activities Center.
Come make a splash as the BEAST Series takes to the water in race #3! The channels, islands and swampy alcoves of Union Bay are the perfect place to put canoe orienteering into the mix, along with the usual bike and foot sections. As usual, the course will be designed to be friendly to newbies but will have some special twists just for the experts. And the navigation will be easy enough, as long as you're paying attention. The course will be different this year but will use the same prologue/chase format as was used for BEAST #3 in previous year. In other words, the race will be in two stages with a break between them. You can then return the rental canoe without being in a big hurry, before preparing for the chasing start: Your start time for the second stage will be 7:30 p.m. plus whatever your time is for stage 1, the canoe orienteering. For example, if you take 55 minutes to complete the canoe orienteering course, you will start stage 2 at 7:30 p.m. + 0:55 = 8:25 p.m. You may start the canoe orienteering course as early as 5:45 p.m. or as late as 7:00 p.m., and teams' start times will be separated from one another rather than mass or group starting. For the teams that could use a little more time to get around the course, we'll offer a folded chase start, where we start these teams earlier, with or even before some of the faster teams, rather than them waiting for their chase start time. If you think your team will want to take advantage of this, then you'll want to start the canoe course on the early side of the available window. Race #4 -- Thursday, August 19Jeremy McLaughlin, host of the cable program Wild Life , ran the BEAST and the film crew captured the adventure! Thanks to everyone for showing off Pacific Northwest adventure racing. The producers expect to air the program next June. Stay tuned!Maple Valley, WA. Check in and start at Cedar River Trail parking area 100m N of Hwy. 18.
This race rounds out a great season, with some sweet biking and a variety of routes and speeds in true BEAST style. Fascinating BEAST trivia: The idea for BEAST was actually born on a trail used in this course. *** Fall Race -- Sunday, November 21 ***Issaquah, WA area
Just when you might be starting to miss the summer race season, this 4-7 hour race will be a welcome reprise. Come revel in the best fall weather the NW can dish up. We've had a good track record providing snowy weather for Fall BEAST, and if November is anything like last winter, our odds are even better. In keeping with other races this season, this course will include some optional Pro Course checkpoints for the front-running teams, while allowing the less experienced or less speedy racers a chance to finish all or most of the regular course. Throw your name in the hat for the Team Lotto, and we'll put you with some new friends/teammates, including an experienced team leader, or sign up your own team. | |||
