2006 Race InformationDetailed venue and race format information will be posted as they are known. Raceday timeline (check in, start, course closure times) may change slightly as race dates approach. Race #1 -- Wednesday, April 12Sammamish Plateau. Start at Soaring Eagle Park, main entrance, near East end of E Main Drive.
Dust off your gear, put some fresh batteries in your lights, and come hit the trail for the BEAST season opener! The course will feature biking and trekking over rolling single-track trails, with some special tasks to keep you on your toes. It's your chance to do some early season AR, since the next races aren't until May. And it's fun size--not too big for an adventure racing novice's first bite! Race #2 -- Tuesday, May 2Sea-Tac. Start at meadow at Des Moines Creek Park, enter through gate at 18th Ave S and S 200th St.
Join the fun as the BEAST series heats up with race #2! The sinuous paths and trails of Des Moines Creek Park are outstanding for biking and running--generally a bit easier than the trails at Soaring Eagle Park, but still a great roller coaster ride. The maze of trails will make the navigation fast-paced, but at the same time, you'll never be far from a road or path to find yourself if you become momentarily...misplaced. Race #3 -- Wednesday, June 14Union Bay (Seattle). Start at UW Waterfront Activities Center.
Come make a splash as the BEAST Series takes to the water in race #3! Variety is the name of the game in this course, which will include canoe orienteering as well as the usual bike and foot sections. As usual, the course will be designed to be friendly to newbies and keep the old pros on their toes, with enough navigation to keep you busy but not to get you lost (at least not seriously). The course will be different this year but will use the same prologue/chase format as last year's BEAST #3. In other words, the race will be in two stages with a break in between. You can then return the canoe without being in a big hurry, before preparing for the chasing start: Your start time for the second stage will be 7:30 p.m. plus whatever your time is for stage 1, the canoe orienteering. For example, if you take 55 minutes to complete the canoe orienteering course, you will start stage 2 at 7:30 p.m. + 0:55 = 8:25 p.m. You may start the canoe orienteering course as early as 5:45 p.m. or as late as 7:00 p.m., and teams' start times will be separated from one another rather than mass or group starting. The stage 2 start location is nearly a mile from the Waterfront Activities Center (WAC). See the driving directions for details. You are encouraged to leave your car parked near the WAC and ride your bike to the stage 2 start with your gear some time before your chase start time. If this isn't making sense, feel free to ask questions. If you're confused, we'll do our best to make the logistics easy for you by telling you where and when to go on race day. Race #4 -- Tuesday, August 29Carnation. Start at Tolt MacDonald Park, Barn picnic shelter, just north of parking.
The series finale will take advantage of the forest shade and the extensive network of trails of various sizes. It will be a worthy finale, since the competition will have had all summer to heat up. The course will challenge veteran racers while being within the capabilities of newcomers to finish. *** Fall Race -- Sunday, December 3 ***Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area, North Bend, WA.
Just when you might be starting to miss the summer race season, this 4-7 hour race will be a welcome reprise. Come revel in the best fall weather the NW can dish up. We can't promise rain, but we can hope (and we can promise hot drinks at the finish)! | |||
